Lachit Borpukan.  November 24 th is the birthday of one of India’s Greatest General. Lachit Borphukan Of Assam. Why is he considered one of the Greatest? The year was 1671 and the decisive “ Battle of Saraighat ” was fought on the raging waters of the Brahmaputra. On one side was Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s army headed by  Ram Singh of Jaipur and on the other was the Ahom General Lachit Borphukan, who made his way into history books that year. Those were the years when Aurangazeb was at his peak. In August 1667, the Ahom general Lachit Borphukan had recaptured Guwahati.                           Did the British take over from the Mughals? Lets see what happenned actually. Year 1707:     Aurangzeb   dies. He had fought a 20 year battle in Southern India fighting Marathas and other kings to get complete domination of the Southern India. However wars also costs money. So, the treasury were quite empty by then. After his death- There was a battle for succession among his three sons.( Aurangazeb himself killed his elder brother-Dara Shikoh to ascend to the throne ). Shah Alam I came to power after killing his two brothers. Year 1712:  Shah Alam I dies and again fight for succession between his sons ,starts.
