Sudasa-India's First war Hero.
Sudasa-India's First war Hero.
How many would like to read about the first recorded "war Hero" of India?...here it comes....He was Sudasa...Sudasa was a chieftan of a tribe by name Bharathas( yes- the same , from which we call our land as Bharath)....Long time ago approx 20,000 years ago... The Bharathas lived near the banks of River Ravi( or Parushni as told in samskrit)....The area is todays Haryana/punjab plus some parts of rajasthan.....The Bharathas were attacked by ten tribes from the west( Rig Veda VII. 18,33,83 has details about this war)......Fierce battle happenned ,but the Bharathas under Arya Sudasa( Arya meant the noble one-not a race) managed to defeat them.....Many of these defeated ones, moved back further west( most probably Iran/Afghanistan etc)......some of them stayed back......Then - a wonderful thing happenned...usually after a war- the conqureor imposes his culture, his ideas on the vanquised...But Sudasa invited the poets, the intellectuals etc of those ten tribes to contribute to thier culture....how we do we know it?...Guru of Sudasa was Vashista...wheras Guru of those ten kings was Vishwamitra...But if you read the Rig Veda-you will find writings from both Vashista and Vishwamitra and many others from both sides.....Due to this ability to assimilate or include ideas from all around....slowly the rest of the India started calling themselves Bharathiyas....its the inclusion that worked....
so we named our country based on a tribe, which included all ideas ...... What about the name of the place the bharathas lived in?..The Bharathas called it "saptha sindhu"....land of the seven tributaries which made up the River sarawathi....The Zend avesta- the holy text of ancient religion of Iran -Zoroastrianism, mentiones it as "Haptha Hindu" ( Notice the replacement of the letter 'S' with 'H' ?)....and thats how the rest of the world came about, to calling us Hindus...
Another interesting fact is the word "Sindhu" is mentioned atleast 30 times in the Rig Veda, but not even once ,the word 'Hindu' is mentioned.
